Grieving Together: Hospice of the Sacred Heart’s Healing Support
Loss doesn’t fade when a loved one passes—it becomes part of your story, threading through
every day. At Hospice of the Sacred Heart, we know grief isn’t something to “get over” but
something to navigate with care. Since 2003, we’ve been committed to supporting families
through life’s final stages and beyond, offering bereavement services that create safe,
compassionate spaces for healing. From our Camp Healing Hearts to our annual Remembrance
Walk, we’re here to help you grieve together and find light in the shadows.
A Circle of Compassion
Our bereavement programs are built on connection. We bring together those who’ve lost
someone dear—spouses, parents, children, friends—in small, intimate support groups led by
trained facilitators like our chaplains or bereavement counselors. These gatherings thrive on
shared understanding: no one needs to justify their tears or silence. “I didn’t know how much I
needed someone to say ‘I’ve been there’ until I joined,” one participant told us. That mutual
recognition is the heartbeat of our work.
We offer bereavement support for up to 12 months after a loss, tailored to each family’s needs.
Traditional support groups meet weekly for six or eight weeks, exploring topics like surviving
the holidays or rediscovering purpose. For those needing ongoing care, we provide continuous
options. Whether your loss is fresh or years past, Hospice of the Sacred Heart has a place for
you.
Camp Healing Hearts: A Haven for Young Grievers
One of our standout programs is, Camp Healing Hearts, a free day camp for children and teens
ages 6-17 who’ve lost a loved one. Held annually, this program blends fun with healing, offering
crafts, games, and outdoor activities alongside grief education and coping strategies. Guided by
our skilled staff and volunteers, kids connect with peers who understand their pain, creating a
space where they can laugh, cry, and grow. “It gave my daughter a chance to feel normal again,”
one parent shared. Through creative outlets like art and memory-sharing, Camp Healing Hearts
helps young hearts process loss while building resilience. It’s a cornerstone of our mission to
support every generation through grief.
The Remembrance Walk: Honoring Loved Ones Together
Each year, our community comes together for the Remembrance Walk, a poignant event to honor
those we’ve lost. Families, friends, and supporters gather to walk in solidarity, sharing stories
and lighting candles in memory. It’s a powerful moment of collective healing, reflecting Hospice
of the Sacred Heart’s commitment to keeping loved ones’ legacies alive. “Walking with others
who get it made me feel less alone,” a participant said. This event not only fosters connection but
also raises funds to ensure we can continue offering care to all, regardless of ability to pay.
Beyond Words: Practical and Creative Support
Grief isn’t just emotional—it’s practical, too. In our groups, members share tips for sleepless
nights or empty homes, while creative activities like journaling or quilt-making offer tangible
ways to hold memories close. At Camp Healing Hearts, kids craft keepsakes, and during the
Remembrance Walk, participants leave with a sense of unity. These moments don’t erase grief,
but they make it more bearable, even meaningful.
Healing Through Community
Studies show group support can ease loneliness and reduce prolonged depression after loss, but
at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, we see the real impact in the quiet nods, shared laughter, and
outstretched hands. One mother, after losing her husband, said, “Camp Healing Hearts showed
my son he could still smile, and the Walk gave me hope.” Our programs don’t promise to end
grief—they offer a path forward, together.
